All Stars bring home the bronze

The 9u Westside Little League All Stars team traveled to Davenport, Iowa on July 20-25 to take part in the Iowa Little League State Tournament. The team of 12 consisted of 9 players from the Dakota Dunes and North Sioux City area. All players on the roster participated in the Westside Little League (WSLL) recreational baseball program during the 2023 spring/ summer season. The team defeated Morningside Little League All Stars, in the district championships held in Sioux City, on July 12 to represent District 6 in the Quad Cities.

DV Dance tryouts conducted

Tr youts for the 2023 Dakota Valley dance team were held on June 9 and 10 where rosters were formed for jazz and pom. The DV dance squad will look to be competitive this upcoming season after being crowned state champions in 2022. They graduated 3 seniors, but have many returning dancers as well as a strong underclassmen group. Carey Baczwaski has been the head coach for the dance team since 2020.

Softball team secures 2nd place at state tournament

Elk Point-Jefferson softball participated in the USA South Dakota Youth Fastpitch State Softball tournament July 14-16. In their opening round of play, the Huskies went up against the Tropics.

Cross Country holds annual fundraiser

Elk Point-Jefferson’s cross country team held its annual Road Race fundraiser July 22. They had 47 runners participate and 20 people walking in the mile race. The winner of the mile walk was Leah Hanson.

Elk Point hosted the VFW 14U State A Baseball tournament

Elk Point hosted the 2023 South Dakota VFW 14U State A Baseball tournament July 21-23. Teams participating in the tournament were West Central, Mobridge, Vermillion, Belle Fourche, Madison Black, Tea, Milbank and Elk Point-Jefferson.

Dakota Valley Panthers participate in Region play

It was an up and down tourney for the Dakota Valley senior legion baseball team as they fell short of making state during Regional 3B play in Elk Point on July 16, July 17 and July 18. It was a 3-0 victory for the Panthers over Elk Point-Jefferson on Sunday, July 16.

Evans-Raber, Green shoot at Nationals

Athletes and teams representing 466 high schools from across the nation participated at the 2023 USA High School Clay Target League National Championship July 5-10, 2023. The USAHSCTL National Championship, which was held at the Michigan Trapshooting Association in Mason, MI, featured team and individual competition to award the top ten male and female high school athletes and top five high school teams in the country.
