DV Esports exhibits strong play to open the season

The 1st week of competition for the sanctioned season of esports, in South Dakota, opened up the month of December. Dakota Valley’s commitment to the program and strong play shown by all of the Panther esports athletes has DV starting the season incredibly fierce.

Metros score a comeback win to earn split

After a tough 3-1 loss Saturday December 14th, Sioux City Metros Varsity defeated the Omaha Jr. Lancers 4-3 on Sunday. Down 2-0 going into the second period, Metros defenseman and North High Senior Noah Dirkschneider sets a win in motion with an unassisted goal. Dirkschneider would then assist Sioux Center Senior Tegan Doelman score with 1.21 left in the period. In the third, South Sioux City Senior Ryan Hedquist scored twice for Sioux City.

EPJ wrestlers starts season strong

The Huskies wrestled well at the West Sioux Invite on Tuesday, December 10, 2024. Elk Point-Jefferson won their duals versus Andes Central Dakota Christian (ACDC) and Canistota. They fell to McCook Central/Montrose (MCM) and West Sioux.

Kollbaum all-star and nominee for SD Miss Volleyball

Husky senior Bentlee Kollbaum was named an all-star and a nominee for South Dakota Miss Volleyball due to her incredible play in the 2024 volleyball season. An event for all of the allstars was hosted by the South Dakota Volleyball Coaches Association (SDVBCA) on Sunday, December 8, 2024. It was an opportunity for the SDVBCA to honor Kollbaum and many other talented volleyball seniors from across the state.

Esports now sanctioned South Dakota sport

Last year high schools in South Dakota embarked on a pilot program for esports with only a select number of school districts participating. Things will be a bit different for this 2024/25 season as esports is now sanctioned and growing in popularity. Esports involves competitive video game play, often with multiple players.

Siouxland Metro hockey in review

Sioux City Metros are currently ranked #1 in the Midwest High School Hockey League after recent results. Sioux City Metros Varsity scores; November 29th FINAL: Sioux City Metros 7, Fremont Flyers 1 November 30th FINAL: Sioux City Metros 1, Dubuque Saints 2 December 1st FINAL: Sioux City Metros 3, Dubuque 0 December 7th FINAL: Sioux City Metros 2, Des Moines Oak Leafs 1 December 8th FINAL: in Overtime: Sioux City 3, Des Moines Oak Leafs 4 Metros Junior Varsity stands with 12 total wins and one loss ranking the second in the league.

Elk Point-Jefferson wrestlers start season strong

Elk Point-Jefferson kicked off the 2024/25 wrestling season in Flandreau on Saturday, December 7, 2024. Wrestlers went up against many formidable opponents at the annual Flandreau Booster Club Invitational. The EPJ squad took 2nd place as a team and Head Coach Tyler Nolz thought his Huskies performed well.

The Panther volleyball team had an exciting run at the 2024 South Dakota State Volleyball Tournament. The event took place in Sioux Falls at the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center.

More convincing wins for Metros

Sioux City Metros faced the Quad City Blues on November 16th and 17th. Varsity’s relentless attack left them with 5-1 and 8-1 wins respectively. DV’s Noah Graham added two points for assists to his season stats. Precision passing from teammate Teagan Doelman of Sioux Center landed him 25 points on the season following the latest game vs. the Boji Mammoths. Varsity had an easy grip on Boji on Saturday the 23rd with a 10-0 shutout. That gives Metros a 7-1 season record to date in the MHSHL (Midwest High School Hockey League).
