Panthers fight close battle

It was a wet Friday Night Lights for the Dakota Valley Panthers as they travelled north to take on Sioux Falls Christian Chargers in a tough football game Sept. 9. It was a back and forth contest that came down to the 4th quarter when scores by the Chargers put the game out of reach. The road game was the first loss for the Panthers this season and the final score was 14-24.

Cheer performs at first meet

The Dakota Valley cheer team travelled to Dell Rapids, SD for their first competition of the season Sept. 6. The Panthers performed their routine against a variety of schools, with a number of teams being from districts located north of the Sioux Falls metro. The Panthers received a final score of 124 points from the judges. The team had 11 points in deductions, which showed they were in the running to be on the podium at this competition.

Dakota Valley Panthers dance to the top

Dancers from Dakota Valley took their talents to Yankton, SD to face off against a variety of bigger schools in what was a strong field. The competition took place Sept. 8 and the Panthers came home victorious. A dominance in both their jazz and pom routines had Dakota Valley taking 1st in both which led them to be crowned overall champions. The squad received a high score of 272.5 in jazz and 283.5 in pom which gave them an overall score of 278.0 for the day.

Dance takes 1st, cheer 4th

The Dakota Valley dance squad and competitive cheer team both travelled just over 200 miles to Winner, SD on Sept. 10 to showcase their routines in a multi-team tournament.

Panthers tie for 4th

The Dakota Valley boys varsity golf team took to the links at The Bluffs in Vermillion, SD on Sept. 8. In a field of 14, the squad earned a tie for 4th place with two Panthers medaling in the top 15. Dakota Valley ended the day with a team score of 341, just 16 strokes behind Vermillion’s 1st place finish.

Competitive cheer: Competing against Class AA

Dakota Valley’s competitive cheer squad took their routine on the road Sept. 8 to compete in the Yankton Invite. The Panthers put up good scores as they faced larger school districts with bigger teams.

Huskies medal 7 at DV:

On a hot and breezy day at Adams Homestead and Nature Preserve in McCook Lake, the Elk Point-Jefferson Huskies’ Cross Country team brought 31 athletes to the Dakota Valley Cross Country Invitational. Teams included Dakota Valley, Tea Area, Lawton-Bronson, Elk Point-Jefferson, Canton, Siouxland Christian, Irene-Wakonda,Centerville,Sioux City West, Sioux City East and Alcester-Hudson.

Three in a row – Fifty to no

For three weeks in a row, the Elk Point-Jefferson football team has showed their fierceness under the Friday Night lights by shutting down every opponent and ending every game (Parker 50-0 and Baltic 55-0) early due to the mercy rule. Friday night, Sept. 2 was no different; the Huskies defeated the Sioux Valley Cossacks 50-0 with 40 seconds left in the 2nd quarter, ultimately ending the game at halftime.

Huskies compete at Augustana Twilight

On Friday, Sept. 2, the Elk Point-JeffersonHuskyCrossCountry team took an unprecedented 10 athletes to the prestigious Augustana Twilight Meet in Sioux Falls. This unique race includes JV races, Varsity races and collegiate women and men – with the last 3 races being under the lights.

Huskies lose close battle

The Elk Point-Jefferson Huskies put up a good fight against Dell Rapids, Aug. 30. They battled the Quarriers defeating them 22-25 in the first two sets of the game and were looking for the same outcome in the third to end. However, that isn’t how the ball was landing. The Huskies took their first loss of the season in 5 sets: 25-22; 25-22; 18-25; 17-25; 5-15.
