The Jefferson City Council opened their May 6 meeting to discuss unfinished business before swearing in the new council. Tom Johnson with JET Enterprises, LLC was present to update the council on the removal process of the old Jefferson High School building.

A public hearing on a nuisance violation for property located at 31798 475th Ave., Elk Point was held at the Union County Commission meeting on April 30 at 11:15 a.m. The property belonging to Richard and Wanda Jilderda was declared a nuisance at their prior meeting because of garbage, trash, trees and branches and inoperative, wrecked motor vehicles and campers sitting upon the property.

South Dakota senior citizens and citizens with disabilities have until July 1 to apply for sales or property tax refunds under South Dakota’s Tax Refund Program. Under the program, eligible individuals may receive a portion of the sales or property taxes they paid from the previous year.
