Jefferson to look at Ash tree replacement options

The latest Jefferson City Council meeting held on October 7, 2024, was attended by Mayor P. Rigg and council members J. Casper, M. LaFleur, J. Lokhorst, and M. Stokely. Also present were S. LaFleur-Sayler, M. Roark, and D. Sharkey.

All-State Choir Clinic

The Elk Point-Jefferson choir is staying busy throughout the months of October and November. Katelyn Brunick, EPJ’s 5th-12th grade Choir & Vocal Jazz Director, is readily preparing the Huskies for an October 28th concert at the school. It is called the “Halloween Spook-tacular Choir Concert”.

Dunes Fall Festival

The Dakota Dunes Homeowner’s Association (HOA) hosted its annual Fall Festival on Sunday, October 6, 2024. In past years, the event took place on the tennis courts of the Dakota Dunes Country Club. However, this year, it was moved to Prairie Park. All in attendance appeared to enjoy the new venue and wonderful atmosphere.

Women’s Wednesday Club 125th Anniversary

The Women’s Wednesday Club recently marked a significant milestone as it celebrated its 125th Anniversary on Wednesday, October 2, 2024. The event, filled with profound historical significance and camaraderie, took place at the Union County Historical Society’s Charles Murtha House, where club members adorned themselves in turn-of-the-century costumes to honor the occasion.

Panthers down Watchdogs at DV homecoming

It was a packed house for the Panther’s homecoming football game on Friday, October 4. Dakota Valley faced off against the Beresford Watchdogs. The high school pep band played during warm-ups and marched at halftime. The DV dance team also performed. There was a ton of excitement in the air as the Panthers came away to win 33-12.

SD librarians earn accreditation

The South Dakota State Library awarded certification to 38 librarians from 27 libraries at the annual South Dakota Library Association conference on Sept. 26 in Aberdeen, S.D. The voluntary certification program recognizes library directors and staff who have met certain certification standards.

First Dakota National Bank is proud to have earned the distinction of South Dakota’s #1 Best-In-State Bank by Forbes business magazine for 2024. The results were based on a survey of approximately 26,000 U.S. residents.

Ustad appointed to County Board

The Union County Board of Commissioners convened for their regular session on October 1, 2024, at the Courthouse in Elk Point. The meeting commenced at 8:30 a.m. and was attended by board members Michael Dailey, Kevin Joffer, Richard Headid, Peggy Ustad, and Tom Kimmel.
