Wounded Warriors Project benefit

On December 8th, the Marquee in Sioux City will transform into a hub of community spirit as residents come together to support the Wounded Warriors Project, an organization dedicated to assisting veterans injured in combat. Hosted by community members John Glaza, Rose Gilman, and Bill (Chopper) Pelchat, this benefit promises to be an afternoon filled with music, camaraderie, and the collective effort to aid those who have bravely served our nation.

SDSU Extension 4-H State Ambassadors for 2024-25 announced

South Dakota State University Extension 4-H is pleased to announce the youth chosen as State 4-H Ambassadors for the coming year. The State 4-H Ambassador program provides leadership and mentoring opportunities as participants support 4-H and serve as positive role models.

Elk Point-Jefferson salutes Veterans

The Elk Point-Jefferson school district celebrated Veterans Day, on November 11, 2024, with a morning program that paid recognition to those who have served America to protect the country. It was held at 8:30 am in the Husky’s high school gymnasium and many from the Elk Point and Jefferson area attended.

Dakota Valley school salutes Veterans

The Pledge of Allegiance and a performance of the “Star Spangled Banner”, sung by Dakota Valley’s choir members, started the Panther’s Veterans Day Program on November 11, 2024. Students in grades 6th-12th were in attendance, as well as teachers, staff and guests. A row of local Veterans sat in the center to be honored.

International Fire Code discussed for DDCID

On October 21, 2024, at 6 pm, the Dakota Dunes Community Improvement District (CID) Board of Supervisors met for a regular meeting. The meeting occurred at the Welcome Center, on Sioux Point Road, with the following members in attendance: Ken Beaulieu, Bill Shorma, Scott Wetz, Julie Shanafelt and Janet Finzen.

DV Theatre’s “The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane”

The Dakota Valley Theatre department took the stage on Friday, November 15 and Saturday, November 16 for their production of “The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane”. The play was adapted by Dwayne Hartford and based on the famous book written by Kate DiCamillo.

DV team debates in the George McGovern Invitational

The high school speech and debate team, at Dakota Valley, was off to a busy start for the first full week of November. The Panthers had 2 competitions and performed well. On Monday, November 4, 2024 the Panthers were at Sioux Falls Jefferson High School. Then on November 8-9, 2024, the DV students participated in the 32nd Annual George McGovern Speech and Debate Invitational in Mitchell, South Dakota.
