Council donates to youth program

Every year, the North Sioux City City Council provides monetary donations to various youth programs including the Mid-America Council of the Boy Scouts of America. Last year, it came to the council’s attention that the local boy scout troop – Troop 28 and Pack 28 – is no longer associated with that particular council. So in order for the city’s contributions to benefit local scouts, the donations need to be made to the Tri-State Youth Association (TSYA). Since 2011, the city has contributed $3,000 annually for local scouts.

Mathis is new fire prevention specialist

Jay Mathis is the first person to hold the title of Fire Prevention Specialist for the Dakota Valley Emergency Services District and North Sioux City Fire Department. Mathis has made a career as a firefighter.

Emergency responders help in crisis

Monday morning, Oct. 23 at 11:14 a.m., Union County Dispatch received an emergency call for a construction worker falling off of scaffolding in Elk Point.

A construction company was tuck-pointing the building owned by the First Dakota Title Company via roof access from the Leader-Courier. One of the construction workers fell from the scaffolding about 8 feet to the roof below. It was reported the individual landed on their left side.

Firefighters participate in Rope Rescue Training

Three members of the North Sioux City Fire Department attended a Rope Rescue Training in Kansas City, KS. Rescue Captain Tyler Kruse, Fire Prevention Specialist Jay Mathis and Paramedic/Firefighter Willis Strawn IV attended the week-long training.

New interactive pumpkin patch opens

Union County residents now have a new fall-themed area to take their children for a weekend day excursion. Adele’s Cat Pumpkin Patch opened the first weekend in October.
