Students learn about Saints

Religious education students from Elk Point, Jefferson and Dakota Dunes met at St. Peter’s Catholic Church and Cemetery in Jefferson on Wednesday, Oct. 25. The evening consisted of a youth disciple event where confirmation students dressed as Saints and gave brief presentation to middle schoolers and adults walking around in small groups. The fun and informative church activity was done to coincide with this year’s All Saints Day. It ran from approximately 7:30 to 9 p.m. with multiple volunteers on-hand.

Cubs hold annual Scouting for Food

The Elk Point-Jefferson Cub Scout Pack 87 is holding their annual Scouting for Food event beginning Nov. 1 through Nov.

NHS hosts Soles4Souls

The Elk Point-Jefferson National Honor Society started the Soles4Souls project in 2010. “Michelle Corio was a senior that year,” Rita Ahmann said.

National Honor Society Induction Ceremony

The National Honor Society induction for Dakota Valley high schoolers happened on Monday, Oct. 16 in the Performing Arts Center. Spanish teacher, Amanda Valbuena, is the Panther advisor for National Honor Society (NHS) which inducts junior and senior members on an annual basis.

Dakota Valley attends All-State Choir in Rapid City

Some of South Dakota’s most talented high school vocal students were in the Black Hills on Saturday, Oct. 28 for All State Chorus. The 2023 concert was held in Summit Arena at The Monument in Rapid City.

Academic All-State

The cross country Academic All-State list was announced on Oct. 24.

Saving every life, one animal at a time

The Siouxland Humane Society (SHS) has received national recognition from the Best Friends Animal Society. A plaque was awarded for achieving a save rate of over 90 percent for year 2022, naming the SHS a no-kill shelter.

Looping project end date delayed

A project which was supposed to be completed by Oct. 31, will be delayed due to a water leak. The Dakota Dunes Community Improvement District (CID) Board of Supervisors was notified of the complication at their meeting on Oct. 16.
