Different types of scams have been appearing on social media platforms for years, but have been continuously increasing in the last year or two. While these scams have been around, it has been relatively quiet within the area.

The City of North Sioux City Parks and Recreation will once again hold its annual Summer Recreation program beginning Monday, June 5 through June 28. Registration for the free program opened May 4 and closes as soon as the camp is full. This year’s cap is 50 participants. People who live in Nor th Sioux City, McCook Lake or Dakota Dunes can participate in this program.

The Sioux Point Road construction and realignment project began on March 6 with the closure of Sioux Point Road in order to put in utilities. The closure was initially only slated for 30 days, weather permitting. Sioux Point Road is closed from Quiniela Drive to the Shay Road intersection.

An arrest warrant has been issued in the suspicious death of a Dakota Dunes woman who was found deceased in her Wellington Apartment Wednesday, April 26. According to the South Dakota Department of Criminal Investigation (DCI), the death was determined suspicious in nature.

The 2023 national finals for Poetry Out Loud are set to take place in Washington, D.C. on May 9 and 10 with Dakota Valley junior Grace Powell in attendance after winning two important competitions closer to home.

A house fire in North Sioux City destroyed one home and damaged two others April 18. The North Sioux City Fire Department was dispatched at 11:13 p.m. with a report of a structure fire at 801 Campbell Street in North Sioux City.

After 10 years, Dakota Valley will have a new leader in their football program. Dakota Valley School District hired Kenny Wilhite as the new head coach beginning in the fall of 2023 season.
