Murder suspect to be extradited

Union County now has 30 days to travel to Laredo, TX and pick up murder suspect Alfredo Castellanos-Rosales. Castellanos-Rosales was charged with first- and second-degree murder of 23-year-old Jordan Beardshear who was found inside her Dakota Dunes apartment April 26.

Teacher apprenticeship pilot launches next fall

The South Dakota Department of Education has made available an application for its new Teacher Apprenticeship Pathway. The department, and its partners, will pilot the program beginning in the 2023-24 school year.

Dunes holds brief meeting

Elaine Peacock and Friends to perform in Gayville

Gayville Hall, the old-time music hall, is located in Gayville, SD, will present “Elaine Peacock & Friends,” a two-hour musical extravaganza. The show, to be held Saturday, May 27, at 7 p.m., is a patriotic musical salute to Memorial Day.

Every donation counts

Thanks to the United States Postal Service and the local Girl Scouts, the Elk Point Food Pantry has more items to stock on their shelves. On May 9, the girl scouts donated money and food items to the pantry.

Union County Board of Commissioners hear tower estimate

At a prior meeting, the Union County Board of County Commissioners were informed the current communications tower couldn’t be relocated and would have to be replaced. At their meeting May 16, the commissioners heard the estimate for building a new tower at a different location on the courthouse property.
