Meet the candidates

On April 8, North Sioux City will see five races—one for four different seats on the City Council and one for the Mayor. To get to know the candidates better, the Dakota Dunes/North Sioux City Times asked each individual for some background information.

North Sioux City Candidate Town Hall

Commissioner and mayor candidates for North Sioux City gathered in the council chambers along with the general public on Monday, March 24, 2025. They were together for a town hall event prior to the upcoming local election. Hosts for the gathering were the McCook Lake Association, the American Legion and the Dakota Valley Business Council.

“Kind Like Karlee”

The “Kind Like Karlee” movement, in honor of Dakota Valley alum Karlee Hughes, donated $1187.00 to the New Stage Players Penguin Project on March 25, 2025. Many gathered at Peoples Bank in North Sioux City for the check presentation.

DV Quiz bowl DAK XII champs

The DAK XII conference tournament for high school quiz bowl was held on Monday, March 24, 2025. The competition happened at Tri-Valley high school in Colton, South Dakota. Dakota Valley sent a varsity roster of all seniors to the tournament and they brought home gold.

Road closure scheduled

As of Monday, March 31, 2025, S.D. Highway 46 was closed to through traffic from S.D. Highway 11 to 297th Street (Hudson Curve). This closure will be in place for the duration of the reconstruction project through November 2025.

Panthers participate in page program

Panther upperclassmen Bailey Link and Danica Euliss were recently in Pierre, South Dakota to experience the intricacies of state government on a first hand basis.

NSC Council navigates referendum challenges

The North Sioux City Council held two meetings last week addressing diverse topics that ranged from preparing for local elections to tackling citizen concerns about flood mitigation and infrastructure projects.
