Clay Target League breaks spring participation record

The season is underway for 1,590 student athletes participating in the South Dakota State High School Target League (SDSHSCTL) this spring. Those athletes are competing on 71 high school teams across the state, supported by over 400 coaches, team staff and other volunteers.

County will sound outdoor weather sirens monthly

South Dakota has declared April 17-21 as Severe Weather Awareness Week. In order to observe this, Union County will be conducting siren tests in all municipalities at 1:45 p.m.

Dakota Valley HOSA shines at State Leadership Conference

On March 30, 2023 students involved with HOSA (Health Occupations Students of America) at Dakota Valley participated in the State Leadership Conference (SLC) in Sioux Falls. The event took place at the Sanford Pentagon and provided a chance for Panther students to show their skills and aptitude in various HOSA competitions.

Dakota Valley board awards multiple bids

The Dakota Valley School Board awarded multiple bids for updates to the district’s buildings at their meeting April 10. The first bid accepted was from IS Restaurant Design Equipment & Supply for $58,616.23 for Elementary kitchen equipment.

SD Guard promotes Bartunek as first female brigadier general

The South Dakota National Guard promoted Deborah Bartunek of Rapid City, to the rank of brigadier general during a ceremony at Joint Force Headquarters on April 1, 2023. Brig. Gen. Bartunek is the first female general officer for the South Dakota National Guard.

Opera Singer to share songs and stories from theWomen’s Suffrage Movement

Audrey Johnson, a classically trained opera singer and founder of the performance platform “Of Thee I Sing” will perform Songs and Stories of Heroism from the Women’s Suffrage Movement. She will be accompanied by Lori Jessen, a local piano collaborative pianist.
