Rigg named Jeerson mayor-elect

The Jefferson City Council met in regular session May 1 and once again discussed two properties under old business. Once the old business was conducted, Mayor Joe Bogenrieff stepped down and council member Paddy Rigg was named mayor-elect.

Griffin recognized for academic success

Elk Point-Jefferson Senior Grace Griffin has had many academic accomplishments throughout her high school career and she recently reaped the benefits of those academics accomplishments. Griffin was invited to participate in KCAU’s Best of Class and recognized by Governor Kristi Noem as the top academic 1 percent of students in South Dakota.

Adams to host Donkey Dash

Adams Homestead and Nature Preserve will be hosting their annual Donkey Dash 5K Fun Run/Walk on Saturday, May 20. Broadband funding announced

Governor Kristi Noem and the Governor’s Office of Economic Development announced the latest ConnectSD broadband grants. These awards will make quality, high-speed internet available to underserved households in South Dakota.

Property Tax Refund Program open

South Dakota senior citizens and citizens with disabilities have until July 1 to apply for sales or property tax refunds under South Dakota’s Tax Refund Program. Under the program, certain individuals are able to receive a portion of the sales or property taxes they paid from the previous year if they meet the eligibility requirements.

Radio tower unsafe to relocate

When the Union County Commissioners were discussing courthouse expansions, one phase included relocating the radio tower and generator. While the expansion has been put on hold, the commissioners continued discussions on moving the tower May 2 at their meeting.

Caring Committee hosts PBJ Run

Immanuel Lutheran’s Caring Committee is collecting shelf-stable foods for children for the upcoming summer months. For children that might be making their own lunches throughout the summer, the committee is seeking donation items such as Spaghetti Os, canned pastas, Ramen noodles, microwaveable macaroni & cheese, toaster pastries, cereals, or anything that can be easily prepared.
