Alcester-Hudson, Dakota Valley and Beresford travelled to Elk Point to participate in the Union County Quad Cross Country meet with the Huskies Thursday, Sept. 24. As always, The Pointe Golf & Event Center course was in good condition for the event. Although the weather was sunny and hot, many runners ran personal best times at this event. Both the girls and boys races were 5k (3.1 miles).

First up was the girls varsity. Beresford took the top 5 spots and won the team competition, with Anna Atwood winning the race in a time of 21:26. Elk Point was without their top runner, but the Huskies placed 5 in the medals and finished 2nd in the team competition. Medalists were Ashley Stark in 8th, Claire LaFerrier in 9th, Ella LaFerrier in 10th, Madison Stark in 15th and Joey Stark in 20th.

The boys varsity race was significantly faster than in 2019. Early on in the race, 5 racers (2 Beresford, 2 DV and 1 EPJ) formed a lead group. In the second half of the race, the top 3 distanced themselves from the pack with all 3 finishing under 18 minutes. Ultimately, Andrew Atwood from Beresford crossed the line in 17:25, winning the race for the second year in a row. Husky Joe Cross again finished high, placing 3rd in 17:50. Other medalists included Evan Hailey in 13th, Isaiah Love in 19th and Daniel Harvey in 20th, all with personal bests.

Overall, Beresford won both team competitions with the EPJ girls finishing second and the boys third.

Elk Point travels to Lennox Oct. 1, with the DAK-12 Conference Meet on the calendar for Oct. 8 in Madison.
