The Dakota Valley Panthers competed in two different meets this week – the first at Elk Point-Jefferson, the second at Sioux Falls Washington.

Dakota Valley won their match against Viborg-Hurley Feb. 9 at EPJ with wins by falls coming from Zach Rosenkrans (145) and Jackson Boonstra (126). Those that won by forfeit were Eston Monical (132), Lake Kistner (152), Kobby Addo (170), Brodey Ballinger (182), Isaiah Hoffman (195), Samson Do (220) and Bennett Lukken (113).

“We were able to pick up another dual win, which gives all of our kids confidence that their hard work is paying off,” head coach Grayson Pirner said. “It was nice to get Zach back on the mat after an extended delay due to injury. Kobby Addo and Eston Monical both picked up exhibition wins as first-year wrestlers so our team was happy for them.”

In Sioux Falls, DV grappled against Sioux Fall Washington and Vermillion, losing both duals. The first dual against SFW, DV lost 63-15. Wins were garnered by Latrell Watson (138) over Sawyer Johnson by a 11-8 decision, Lukken over Favian RivasWells by fall in 1:07 and Boonstra by forfeit.

In the second dual against Vermillion, DV lost 18 to 66. Those scoring points for the Panthers were Rosenkrans, Ballinger and Boonstra. Each won by fall.

“We wrestled well in both duals,” Pirner said. “Even the matches we lost, I felt like our kids competed and showed some attitude that is needed to win. We are looking forward to regions next Friday and hope to get as many kids through as possible to state.”
