The Dakota Valley athletics programs continue to grow and be strong opposition to their opponents. 2021 saw many changes in participation along with many state berths.

Jan. 7, 2021 – 100-point game to end the year

In what has been a questionable year, there was no question to Dakota Valley boy’s athleticism as they put up 100 points on the score board to beat Corsica-Stickney in the Parkston Classic Dec. 28 100-63.

Jan. 14, 2021 – Girls take a win

Despite the deep sadness on the Panther team at the loss of head coach Tammy Lilly’s father, they pulled together and beat Sergeant Bluff-Luton 62-58 Jan. 5.

Jan. 21, 2021 – DV wrestles at home triangular

The Dakota Valley Panthers hosted a triangular Tuesday, Jan. 12 with Elk Point-Jefferson, Tri-Valley and West Central. Winning against West Central were Jackson Boonstra (126) and Alex Reinhardt (285). Winning against Tri-Valley were Zach Rosenkrans (145), Bennett Lukken (113) and Boonstra.

Jan. 28, 2021 – Bruns breaks second record

A school record set by Shaun Reiff in 2000 was broken Jan. 22 in the boys basketball game versus Tri-Valley. Paul Bruns, who started the season with 577 rebounds, has been quickly making his way to breaking Reiff’s record at 678. With his 9 rebounds, Bruns set the new record with 679 rebounds. He broke the school record for career points last year.

Feb. 4, 2021 – Four players hit double digits

In a make-up game against Hartington Cedar Catholic, Jan. 29, four Dakota Valley players hit double digits in their 78-52 win. Paul Bruns led the way with 19 points, Issac Bruns followed with 16, Chayce Montagne 13 and Alex Zephier 11.

Feb. 11, 2021 – Rosenquist makes 1,000th point

As Rylee Rosenquist took to the court Feb. 1, she knew she was close to breaking 1,000 career points. She made it right away in the first quarter in the match-up against Sioux City North.

Feb. 25, 2021 – Boonstra, Gomez head for state

Ariana Gomez will be the first Dakota Valley girl to wrestle in the first-ever girls state wrestling meeting. Jackson Boonstra (126) took second place for Dakota Valley in the region tournament in Brandon Valley Feb. 19 and will also be heading to state.
