On Thursday, May 5, the EPJ track team made the short drive north to participate in the Beresford Lions Club Meet. Competitors included Vermillion, Canton, West Central, Brandon Valley, Tea Area, Alcester-Hudson and Beresford. It was a beautiful day – in any other year it would be referred to as ‘windy,’ but 20mph gusts are considered calm in the spring of 2022.

First place finishers for the Huskies included Jacob Lichtenberg in the shot put and discus, Josie Curry in the discus, Lauren McDermott in the 300m hurdles, Ben Swatek in the javelin, Joe Cross in the 3200 and Natalie Heuertz in the triple jump.

Numerous other Huskies placed in the top 8, earning valuable points for the team competition.

Overall, Elk Point-Jefferson boys placed 3rd with 109.5 points to Brandon Valley’s 166 and West Central’s 150.5. The girls also placed 3rd with 120 points to Canton’s 149 and West Central’s 134 points, respectively.

Next up for the Huskies is the DAK-12 conference meet at the Elk Point track Thursday, May 12.
