The girls basketball team opened their season with 2 wins over DAK-12 opponents.
First up they hosted Canton Thursday, Dec. 9 and got a 40-36 win in overtime. The Huskies had a slow start, going nearly 8 minutes from the end of the 1st quarter into the 2nd without scoring. The C-Hawks, on the other hand, put up 23 points in the first half to lead 23-15 at halftime.
EPJ’s defense turned things around in the second half, as they shut down the Canton offense, holding them to single digits in both the 3rd and 4th quarters. Ashley Brewer picked up the pace in the paint and ended with 17 points in the game. EPJ also controlled the paint defensively, with Nora Kastning hauling in 14 rebounds.
The score was tied at the end of regulation, despite the Huskies having 2 shots at free throws as time wound down. EPJ scored the only points in overtime, to win 40-36.
The girls travelled to Madison Saturday, Dec. 11 for another win. This time, they got off to a hot start, scoring 26 points in the 1st half to win 44-32.
Kastning had another great game, scoring 9 points and 9 rebounds. Kaitlyn VanRoekel and Josie Curry also scored 9 points.
The Huskies host Parker Thursday, Dec. 16 and go to Sioux Falls Christian Friday, Dec. 17. Both games are double-headers with the boys.
