Dakota Valley will send 26 athletes to the state track meet in Spearfish. It is the largest group in the school’s history. Sixteen boys, including 12 in individual events and 10 girls, including 7 in individual events, will participate.

Tommy Nikkel has the best time in the 400. Gunnar Gunderson has the best time in the 100 hurdles. He is listed as third in the 300 hurdles and part of the 4x200 that is third. Members also include Trae Piel, Drew Steele, Hunter Beving and Nikkel (includes alternate).

Jorja VanDenHul is the top high jumper. Silja Gunderson is ranked third in the 100 hurdles.

For the state qualifiers this year, the South Dakota High School Activities Association has decided to take the top 24 times and/or distances in each class. Rylee Rosenquist ranked 12th in the long jump, but due to an injury early on in the season will not participate in the event. Nikkel, ranked third in the 800, has decided to not participate in this event, as well. This means the 25th individual in each event will now be moved into the 24th ranking and qualify for state.
