Dakota Valley eked out a victory in Hartford 15-14 over West Central Sept. 24. It took a 2-point conversion to get the lead that held.

West Central tried to give the game to Dakota Valley with 5 lost fumbles and an interception. Conversely, DV helped the hosts with 2 pass interference calls and 2 unsportsman-like conduct penalties.

Tommy Nikkel took the opening kickoff at the 5 and returned it to midfield.

Eight plays later, Kobey June scored on a 15-yard run. Evan Foster’s PAT was good.

West Central lost the ball on a fumble forced by June and recovered by Hunter Beving. The Panthers went 3 and out. West Central moved the ball 44 yards, but another forced fumble was recovered by Kaden Martin. On a 4th and 8, DV went for it, but West Central held. On West Central’s second play, they fumbled and it was recovered by Christian Merchant.

DV missed a field goal. West Central had a 12-yard run and a 63-yard touchdown run. The PAT was good.

DV then went 3 and out. West Central marched 59 yards on 10 plays to score on a 10-yard run. The PAT was good.

DV was held again on a 3 and out. Evan Foster then intercepted West Central’s pass.

The third quarter was a defensive struggle.

West Central went 3 and out. DV did the same. The next West Central possession ended with a fumble caused by Aidan Moran and recovered by Martin. On Dakota Valley’s first play, they turned the ball over on an interception.

West Central drove 10 plays for 55 yards that extended into the fourth quarter. They were helped by a personal foul on DV. On 1st and 10 at DV’s 16-yard line, West Central fumbled again, recovered by Martin.
