They didn’t miss their shot at making the state tournament last year, but did have to miss out on playing in it. The Dakota Valley boys weren’t going to do that again. They punched their ticket to state March 9 after a win over Sisseton played in Centerville.

Dakota Valley got out to a fast start, leading the game 22 to 10 at the end of the first quarter. By half-time, they held the lead at 35-17. Another strong quarter had them up by another 24 points. The fourth quarter, the Panthers struggled to get the ball through the hoop, only making 6 points, but still taking the game 65-47.

Three players hit double digits – Paul Bruns 29, Isaac Bruns 15 and Randy Rosenquist 12. Chayce Montagne dished out 7 of the team’s 17 assists. Issac Bruns led the team in steals with 5.

“Our boys really came out of the gate strong, defended well and moved the ball on offense,” head coach Jason Kleis said. “Randy Rosenquist had a great game with 12 points in the first half to get us going, and Paul Bruns was again great all around as well. Isaac Bruns and Alex Zephier continue to be lock-down defenders on the other team’s top players and both played well. We had so many contributions from different guys. We are excited to go back to state, and I know our guys are focused to finish strong and play well once we get there.”
