A 16-point gap ended the first quarter with Dakota Valley Panthers leading the Canton C-Hawks Dec. 18. The C-Hawks picked up their game in the second and third quarters, scoring 17 points each. But DV pulled together and kept the C-Hawks at 7 points in the fourth, winning 89-49, handing Canton their first loss of the season.

Isaac Bruns led the team with 35 points. Paul Bruns followed, adding another double-double to his season record, with 26 points and 14 rebounds. Chayce Montagne broke double digits with 10 points and almost had a double-double with his selfless 7 assists.

“This was a good step forward for us as a team,” head coach Jason Kleis commented. “I really felt, overall, we shared the ball well and made the extra pass on a lot of great possessions. Our defensive intensity was good as a team, and our bench guys again brought great energy, not only when they came in the game but also from the bench. One of the keys to this team’s success so far is how many good players we have up and down the roster. The several guys that get a lot of the credit and stats for our team are not only good basketball players but good teammates. Just as important, we also have several kids – some that start, some that play a lot off bench, and some that don’t get a lot of minutes – who would not only play, but would no doubt stand out on some other teams. They work hard, are unselfish and accept their roles. This is a big reason we are so excited and optimistic for the rest of the season.”
