On Sept. 1, the Elk Point cross country team travelled the short distance to Adams Homestead and Nature Preserve to participate in the Dakota Valley Cross Country Invite.
This year saw a greater number of entrants in the meet, including the always-tough Sioux City East and Tea Area. In spite of the larger number of teams, Elk Point-Jefferson was able to put three runners in the medals.
The first race was the boys varsity race, with Joe Cross leading the way to a 15th place finish. Isaiah Love was the Huskies’ second varsity finisher, running a strong first official varsity race.
Heather Stark paced the way in the girls varsity race, running to a 9th overall finish. Claire LaFerrier and Ella LaFerrier ran well to place 28th and 29th, respectively.
The boys’ JV1 race saw Easton Kempf run a personal record, with the girls’ JV1 race seeing Alexis Ludwigs run a very strong race.
The final race was the combined JV2 race. Newcomer Carter Heckathorn ran to a 3rd overall finish.
The Huskies’ next meet was Tuesday, Sept. 8 in Canton. They travel to Moville, IA Tuesday Sept. 15 for the Woodbury Central Invite.
