The youthful Dakota Valley girls scored points in four events for 14.33 points and a 17th place finish at the state meet May 28-29 in Spearfish. They participated in 5 other events, including three relays.
Sophia Atchison, junior, finished 3rd in the pole vault Friday, with a vault of 9’9” for 6 points. She was just behind the school record of 10’ set by Meghan Kahler in 2006.
In the high jump, sophomore Jorja VanDenHul finished 5th with a height of 5’2”. (She had previously tied the school record of 5’4”.) Freshman Siena DeGeorgia tied for 8th in the high jump and a third of a point.
Freshman Silja Gunderson finished 7th in the high hurdles with a time of 16.36 for 2 points.
The only points scored on Saturday came from junior Rylee Rosenquist whose throw of 36’5 0.625” pushed her into 8th place and 1 point.
Valuable state meet experience was good for the youthful Panthers. Lauren Okine (senior) participated in the 100m hurdles and pole vault; Claire Hemmingsen (freshman) pole vault; Peyton Tritz (freshman) 800m run, 1600m and medley relays; Izzy Linden (junior) medley relay; Sophie Tuttle (freshman) 300 hurdles, 800 and 1600m relays; Logan Miller (sophomore) medley relay; Grace Meyer (freshman) 800 and 1600m relays; and Emersen Mead (8th grade) high jump.
