The Dakota Valley boys golf JV team started out the week Wednesday, Sept. 8 at Bakker Crossing Golf Course in Sioux Falls and earned first place honors. They played in a triangular against Tea Area and Sioux Falls Christian.

Cash Slater tied for medalist with Sioux Falls Christian’s Tim DeSetel at 94. Tyler Schutte was runner up with 95.

Other scores were Will Freebern 98, Sam Kleis 100, Tate Cornelsen 106 and Garrett Anderson 107.

The JV next competes in the DAK-12 conference meet Sept. 21.

The varsity boys team took 5th place at the Vermillion Invite with a team score of 354.

West Central won the title at 327 followed by Sioux Falls Christian 332 in 2nd, Vermillion 336 for 3rd and Tea Area at 342 for 4th.

Eli Anema from Sioux Falls Christian was the medalist with a 77.

Logan Collette led the Panthers with a 84 (12th) and Isaac Bruns had an 85 (16th).

Other Panther scores were Tyler Cornelsen 92, Hudson TenNapel 94, Dylan Lukken 95 and Luke Bruns 107.

“The weather was perfect and the course was in great shape,” head coach Rodd Slater said. “The team, though, could not execute on or around the greens today.

“It was a good test and sets the bar for some improvement,” he continued. “Fifth place is still a good performance for our young club in a very competitive tournament.”
