The track and field teams are near the end of their regular seasons, and they’re looking to finish strong.

The boys used a strong showing across the board to win the Beresford Lions Club meet May 3. Tyler Goehring won 3 events – the 200, 300 hurdles and the triple jump. Drake Peed won the shot and discus. Overall, 16 individuals placed. All 4 relay teams placed 4th or higher.

The throws continue to rack up points for the Huskies, with Peed in 1st and Luke McInerney in 4th for the shot and Peed 1st, Jacob Lichtenberg 2nd and Tyler LaFleur 3rd in the discus.

The girls placed 6th as a team, with 14 individuals in the top 10. Several junior high runners showed their speed, including Lauren McDermott, 3rd in the 100 hurdles, Cera Schmitz and Kaitlyn VanRoekel.

No team scores were kept at the Yankton First Dakota Relays May 6. Six girls and 8 boys placed in the top 10 at this open class event, which included Class AA schools Huron, Mitchell, Pierre, Sioux Falls and Yankton.

Goehring repeated his triple jump win, as did Peed in shot

and discus.

The teams head to the DAK-12 Conference meet Thursday, May 13 at Dell Rapids. Regions are May 20 in Beresford, but not to qualify for the state meet, as in years past. This year, the top 24 times and distances from throughout the year determine who goes to state. A number of Huskies are in that upper echelon. Watch next week for a list of those likely to qualify for state.
