Paul Bruns moved from 6th the first day to finish 2nd at the State Class A golf tournament in Hot Springs Oct. 5-6.

Bruns shot an 80-72 to finish at 156 behind state champion senior Micah Dohrer of Aberdeen Roncalli, who shot 77-75 for a 152.

Bruns had pulled within 1 after hole 15, but could not close the gap.

Bruns had 5 birdies, 14 pars, 13 bogies and 4 double-bogies.

Sophomore Isaac Bruns tied for 16th with rounds of 83-83, 166. Eighth grader Logan Collette tied for 53rd with rounds of 91-96, 187. Eighth grader Tyler Cornelsen tied for 79th with rounds of 99-103 for 202. Senior Ben Niemeyer tied for 85th with rounds of 101-108 for 209.

As a team, Dakota Valley finished 6th. Seven of the top 10 teams were from the DAK-12 conference. Sioux Falls Christian was champion, followed by Chamberlain, Tea Area, Vermillion and Aberdeen Roncalli. Lennox finished 7th, followed by Madison, St. Thomas More and Elk Point-Jefferson.
