Dakota Valley played in the DAK-12 Conference Tournament in Tea Oct. 16 and walked away with a 2nd place finish.

The volleyball team began the tournament against Dell Rapids and won in 3 close games – 25-16, 23-25, 25-14.

The team totalled 8 aces in the game with Sammi Archer, Logan Miller and Reagan VanRooyan all with 2. Kate VanRooyan led the team with 17 digs, followed by Archer at 14 and Sophie Tuttle with 10. Logan Miller had 29 assists. Tuttle and Jorja VanDenHul recorded 10 kills each.

“We played Dell Rapids first round,” head coach Mary Miller said. “It was a battle, but our ball control was good and we hit the ball well.”

The Tea Area Titans were next and put up a fight, with DV conquering them in two – 28-26, 25-19. Archer and Miller were the only Panthers to reach double-digit stats – Archer with 10 digs and Miller with 19 assists.

“Second round, we beat Tea and played a nice match,” Miller said. “We won some long rallies that were critical to winning the first set.”

The last match against Sioux Fall Christian didn’t bode well for the Panthers. They lost in 2 – 7-25, 7-25. The team recorded 7 kills, 2 blocks and 24 digs. Miller had 6 assists.

“Finished second to an excellent Sioux Falls Christian team,” Miller said. “They served and hit really well.

“We continue to work hard and are improving each week,” she concluded.
