Dakota Valley lost the first half of the Dell Rapids game, but quickly came back and took control, winning 87-72 Feb. 12. A short lead ended the first quarter with Dakota Valley on top leading 17-15; however the Quarriers battled back and outscored the Panthers 21-15 in the second quarter. The score at halftime showed the Panthers down by 4, 32-26.

After a short halftime break, DV came out and never looked back. They dropped 30 points through the hoop compared to DR’s 18 in the third quarter and outscored them 28-25 in the fourth quarter.

Paul Bruns led the way with a double-double 36 points and 18 rebounds. Isaac Bruns was behind him at 25 points, 6 rebounds. Alex Zephier hit double digits with 13 points. Chayce Montange continues to creep up on his career assists – adding 6 assists this game. He is only 2 away from breaking the school’s record set by Brody Van Ginkel in 2014 at 319 assists. Montagne is currently at 318.

“Overall, a great game against a very good Dell Rapids team,” head coach Jason Kleis said. “Our defensive mistakes were much improved. Paul and Isaac Bruns had fantastic games, along with Alex Zephier scoring and being aggressive for us.”

Dakota Valley was on the road this week, facing Sioux City West Feb. 16 and Sioux City East Feb. 18. They will play Madison in Madison in a double-header with the girls Feb. 19.
