At the South Dakota High School Association Region 2A Wrestling Tournament in Sioux Falls Feb. 21, Collin Becker (195) and Jackson Boonstra (113) both brought home second-place titles in their respective weight classes and qualified for the state tournament.

Boonstra’s first match took a little over 5 minutes for him to get the only DV pin during regions, grappling Sioux Falls Washington’s Stuart Parsons. Boonstra next went up against Brandon Valley’s Jordan Oehme and beat him by a 3-2 decision. In an attempt to garner first place, Boonstra faced Yankton’s Tucker Bahm. Unfortunately, Boonstra was outgrappled as Bahm won by a 5-3 decision to claim the title. Third place went to Oehem, fourth to Peyton Tryon of Harrisburg, fifth to Connor Peterson of Vermillion and sixth to Parsons.

Becker, who has only wrestled 10 matches this season with a 9-1 record, took second place in 195. He started the day with a bye, then won by a 10-2 major decision over Dominic Tucker from Brandon Valley and faced off against Gavin Gulbranson of Harrisburg for the championship round. Gulbranson took the match by a 4-2 decision, placing first. Third place went to Tucker, fourth to Malcolm Johnson of Sioux Falls Washington and fifth place to Fran Persic of Lennox.
