The season is close, as the Big Ten just held its media day.
For Nebraska fans, it is year four of the Scott Frost era. His comments again focused on potential. He also noted the goal of getting the Huskers back on the cutting edge. Things like nutrition and strength training have become givens at most schools.
One football magazine from a prior season said Frost’s upbeat offense at Nebraska “may redefine Big Ten football.”
The opening game with Illinois, who the Huskers lost to last year, will be a challenge.
Bret Bielema, new head coach at Illinois, knows the Big Ten. He was most impressive talking about his vision for the Illinois program.
You could almost use a recording for Iowa in Kirk Ferentz. He has a solid record over the years, including six straight wins over Nebraska.
PJ Fleck of Minnesota gave his pep talk-style presentation. Will the Gophers return to 2019 form with 11 wins, including a bowl win over Auburn?
The Big Ten is full of excellent coaches and competitive teams.
Another fall sport is volleyball. Nebraska is at the pinnacle year after year. John Cook reached into South Dakota for his third recruit in recent years. He also signed a player from Brighton, CO public high school who was not in any top 150 lists.
Local sports start practice soon. Keep Thursday, Sept. 23 open on your schedule. Dakota Valley will host Sioux Falls Christian in volleyball.
