Dale P. Hieb, 64, of Brandon, SD died Nov. 3, 2020 at Avera Queen of Peace Hospital due to complications from frontotemporal dementia.
Funeral services were Monday, Nov. 9, 2020 at George Boom Funeral Home, Brandon Chapel. Due to COVID-19, no luncheon was held.
Dale Paul Hieb was born April 25, 1956 to Robert J. and Violet L. (Gehring) Hieb at Parkston, SD. He grew up and attended school in Elk Point, graduating from Elk Point High School. He then attended the University of South Dakota, earning a Bachelors Degree in Education.
Following college, Mr. Hieb taught in Mullen, NE, Hawarden and then Dell Rapids, SD. He then went on to work at Gateway, and also Daktronics as a machine operator.
He enjoyed reading, running, especially marathons, coaching his son’s basketball and baseball teams and refereeing basketball. He loved travelling on family vacations. He was involved with Heritage Lutheran Church, where he was a member, taught Sunday school and was involved with the youth ministry. He loved listening to rock music and cheering on his Vikings and Twins.
Mr. Hieb is survived by his wife, Cathy; a son, Alex of Brandon; a step-son, Christopher (Amber) Breuer of Sioux Falls; a grandson; five siblings, Joyce (Gary) Bortscheller of South Sioux City, Mike (Val) Hieb of Brandon, Gary (Patti) Hieb of St. Louis, MO, Curt (Diana) Hieb of Lenexa, KS and Rose (Reggie) Robertson of Shawnee, KS; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Violet Hieb.
