Nancy Irene Oswalt, 81, of Elk Point, died Friday, July 17, 2020 at her home.
The Celebration of her life was Wednesday, July 22 at Elk Point Baptist Church in Elk Point with Pastor Jesse Hailey officiating. Burial of ashes was at Elk Point Cemetery next to her parents.
Nancy Johnson was born June 4, 1939, the daughter of Delmont and Irene (Pierce) Johnson in Vermillion. She graduated from Elk Point High School in 1957 and attended the University of South Dakota. She lived in St. Paul, MN and Las Vegas before moving back to Elk Point.
She was employed by Electro-Magic-Inc and Allied Industrial Products in Vermillion, Northern Propane in Dakota City, NE and retired from J. Myron Olson & Son in Sioux City. Her profession for most of her employment was a bookkeeper. For many years during the summer, she lifeguarded part-time at the Elk Point public pool.
She was not afraid of hard work and getting her hands dirty. She enjoyed gardening, fishing, playing cards and hunting mushroom and asparagus in the spring. She loved dogs, especially German Shepherds.
She is survived by two children, Mitchell Johnson of Sioux Falls and Tanya Layne of Fort Dodge, IA; two grandchildren; and two brothers, Paul (Mary) Johnson of Billings, MT and Glenn (Sue) Johnson of Mahtomedi, MN.
She was preceded in death by a brother, James Easton.
