Merton Arlo Turner, 87, of Elk Point, passed away July 25, 2020.
He was born June 14, 1933 in Hudson to Maurine Anderson who married Elmer Turner. He married JoAnne Thorson Dec. 6, 1953. They made their home in Elk Point and were blessed with three children. After graduating from Alcester High School, Merton had careers with Farmer’s Elevator, Swift Packing Company, Elk Point Country Club and as the Union County Assessor. His passion was being a life-long farmer, raising horses and cattle. Merton could generally be found at the farm, playing cards, watching sports or with family. He was a long serving member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows. He was loved by many and friend to all.
Merton was preceded in death by his mother and father and a brother, Richard.
He is survived by his wife, JoAnne of Elk Point; sons, Mark (Stephanie) of Elk Point and David (Paula) of La Quinta, CA; a daughter, Ann (Jeff) Massey of Jefferson; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and brothers, Charles of Henderson, NV, Tom (Lucille) of Tehachapi, CA, Dennis (Margaret) of Sioux Falls and Eldon (Deb) of Hudson.
Funeral Services will be at Kober Funeral Home at 802 E. Washington Street in Elk Point. Cards may be sent to PO Box 689, Elk Point, SD, 57025.
