Cops and Christmas cheer

Jefferson Police Chief Randy Crum and officer Bill Manger got ready to deliver these gifts Christmas Eve as part of the Cops & Kids program sponsored by the Fraternal Order of Police (FOP). This year 35 children took part, including three families from the Elk Point-Jefferson School District. In a normal year, the children would meet with the officers to choose their gifts; this year, however, they submitted their wish lists online and officers delivered the gifts to them. Besides Jefferson, officers from the Vermillion and University of South Dakota police departments, Clay County Sheriff’s Office and South Dakota Highway Patrol took part. Vermillion Police Officer Jessica Newman coordinated the project. The state FOP, Vermillion VFW and private donors paid for the gifts and wrapping.
