Construction on overhead bridges

The South Dakota Department of Transportation is doing construction on many of Union County’s overhead bridges along I-29. Rod Gall, the Yankton Area Engineer for SDDOT, said they are removing the old guardrail that is out-dated and does not meet Federal safety regulations and placing new guardrails on many of the county overhead bridges. Since the new guardrail is not the same length as the old guardrail, the dirt inslopes have to be changed. That is why dirt is being placed on all the bridges slopes. Some of the bridges also are getting new approach pavement. While work on the guardrail continues, many of the bridges have been reduced to one lane, including this one off of North Westshore Drive in North Sioux City or 484th Ave.
