Union County, much like many other counties and municipalities, discussed the CARES Act at their county commission meeting Aug. 25. The act would provide federal monies to entities to help offset extra costs incurred by the coronavirus pandemic. A list is being tracked of items that might fall under the act, such as wages for law enforcement and emergency management positions, cleaning supplies and installing plexi-glass barriers.
A letter was received from Frieberg, Nelson & Ask, LLP, a law firm in Beresford, requesting the commissioners look into redoing their BEACON website subscription fees. Frieberg stated that since the information provided within BEACON is public information, it should be made available to the public and they shouldn’t be charged a yearly subscription fee for utilizing it. The commissioners brought this to Director of Equalization Dawn Steckelberg’s attention and will discuss it further at their next meeting.
