Over five hours was spent with regular agenda items, budget, salaries and courthouse improvements at the Union County Board of County Commission meeting Tuesday morning, July 28.
A full-time office employee was requested for the Highway Department; however after speaking to Jerry Buum, highway superintendent, and Dennis Henze, zoning director, it was determined they would share an employee. Union County Auditor Jackie Sieverding warned the commissioners to not pursue that notion as it doesn’t usually work out. It was decided to grant Buum a full-time employee and see if a department lateral transfer could be made, if warranted.
A request to add 7.5 more hours to Lori Boulware’s work week was denied and she will receive the same 40-cent raise as other employees, as there was a question to the salary presented to the commissioners. Deputy State’s Attorney AJ Bates was given a raise of $2,367, increasing him to $60,131.04.
Chief Deputy Michael Bucholz was approved to move from hourly to salary in the amount of $60,000.
