Due to the resignation of North Sioux City Mayor Randy Fredericksen, submitted Tuesday, May 5, a special meeting was held Thursday, May 7. The council accepted Fredericksen’s resignation.
Council president Dan Parks discussed the succession process for when a mayor resigns.
“I’d like to make a public statement at this time on the behalf of the city council,” Parks said. “First, I want to say that we are very committed to act in the best interests of the city residents and businesses. Rest assured, we will be very transparent and open when we’re dealing, more specifically, with the allegations made currently by former mayor Randy Fredericksen. We have and will continue to take all actions necessary to ensure the city operates in a professional matter and address any needs of our residents and businesses. We’re very proud of our community. North Sioux City will continue to be a great place to live, work and play; and as our tag line says, ‘Where you want to be.’ As mentioned yesterday, in a press release, we want to, again, thank former mayor Fredericksen for over 40 years of dedicated service to the city as a public works superintendent and that includes his last five years as mayor.”
