I ask all our readers to be patient with coverage over the next few months as Susan and I deal with health issues.

I continue to have mobility challenges that limit my ability to be outside of the office. It’s a long-term challenge.

Susan is starting chemotherapy for pancreatic cancer with surgery to follow next year.

We will continue our coverage as best we can, but some stories may run a week later than usual.

Our dedicated staff – Beth Sherard-Fennel, Kari Kneip and Larry Wilcox – are working harder than ever and we truly appreciate their efforts. We are thankful, too, for our freelancers, including Steve Peterman, Kelly Riibe and Helen Craig.

Susan and I are actively seeking a buyer for the papers, to continue their longstanding community coverage.

These health issues, along with our advancing ages, 74 and 70, have convinced us it is time for us to step down.
