The Elk Point City Council held a special meeting Monday, Aug. 24 to get their first full look at the 2021 budget.

The committee of council members Brad Zevenbergen, Lance Penfield, Steve Nelson and Finance Officer Erika Hammitt had been working on the budget for several months. It has few changes from last year’s, except in the Police Vehicles Fund. Police Chief Jacob Limoges wants to use the $24,000 reserved for a new vehicle, plus $30,000 cash on hand to purchase a new vehicle, rather than lease one, as the city has in the past. The cost of a three-year lease would be around $66,000, while purchasing a new one, with trade-in, would cost between $48,000-50,000, with a potential savings of at least $16,000. The council approved the purchase.
