School board discusses budget, personnel

The Elk Point-Jefferson Board of Education held its regular meeting and budget hearing on July 8, 2024. President Travis Geary called the meeting to order at the high school study hall. Several members and key school officials, including Tim Brewer, Noelle Jacobs, Sabrina Sayler, Superintendent Phillip Schonebaum, Business Manager Heather Watterson, Principals Skyler Eriksen, Laura Throener, and K-12 Dean of Students/ Activities Director Justin Clercx, were in attendance.

State conservation officers honored for flood rescues

State officials honored South Dakota Game, Fish, and Parks conservation officers Friday for responding to over 30 rescue calls and saving about 60 people from flooding last month in the southeastern part of the state.

Tensions high at NSC council meeting

Tensions were high at the city council meeting held on Monday, July 1st in North Sioux City. It was a full room, as many were on-hand to hear from the local government regarding the recent flooding in the area. Residents also voiced major concerns about communication and relief efforts, or lack thereof, as it pertained to this disaster.

Council discusses flood response, notification system

On July 3, Mayor Patti Teel called a special meeting to order at 7 p.m. with the city council and community members present. The agenda was approved with an addition regarding a fireworks permit request. Community department heads and community board reports were limited to three minutes.
