Dakota Valley girls soccer score 2 in away contests

A busy week was had by the Dakota Valley girls soccer team as they travelled to Hartford, SD to face West Central on Tuesday, Aug. 29 and then were at home a few days later to take on the Groton Area Tigers.

Keenan attends SD High School Honor Choir

Aiden Keenan participated in the South Dakota High School Honor Choir camp held at Augustana University in Sioux Falls, SD. Aiden auditioned to earn a position as a bass singer at the 49th annual camp. He joined over 100+ fellow junior and senior choir members from across the state of South Dakota. The participants were instructed by Dr. Jefferson Johnson, Director of Choral Activities at the University of Kentucky. At the end of the week-long camp participants presented a concert at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls, SD on Aug. 4, 2023. Keenan is a junior at Dakota Valley High School instructed by Kari Wilmes.

North Sioux City Library to hold events

Things are always going on at the North Sioux City Community Library. In the month of September, a crochet class is being held on Sept. 6 and 20 from 1:30 to 4 p.m. Adult Craft night will be held Sept. 7 from 6 to 7 p.m. Sept. 12 will be a fun-_lled day with Beginner LEGOs at 10:30 a.m. and Book Club at 6 p.m. Storytime begins on Sept. 13 and 14 at 10:30 a.m. After Sept. 13, storytime will be held every Wednesday and Thursday.

Dakota Valley Homecoming Week

Dakota Valley’s Homecoming Royalty for 2024 has been selected. This year’s candidates for Homecoming Queen are Silja Gunderson, Grace Meyer, Payton O’Neil, Avry Trotter and Sophia Tuttle. Candidates for Homecoming King are Brendan Barnett, Emanuel Kual, Nick Margeas, Trae Piel and Jaxson Wingert. They will be attended by juniors Emerson Mead, Ella Schmiedt, Drew Lukken and Michael Daniels.

Dunes discusses 2024 budget

Current and upcoming construction projects were the main focus of the Dakota Dunes Community Improvement District (CID) Board of Supervisors meeting held Aug. 28.

Units called to Walmart fire

On Tuesday, Aug. 22 at 2:26 p.m. units were dispatched to a report of fire inside the Walmart building at 1207 Princeton St. in Vermillion. Upon arrival on scene, the command of f icer repor ted nothing showing from the building, and the evacuation of occupants was in progress. Mutual aid was requested from Gayville, Elk Point and Yankton fire departments; however, that request was cancelled after the command officer had assessed the scene.
