Goldbacks: The New South Dakota Money unveiled

There is a new kind of money coming to South Dakota and hundreds of South Dakotans are hoping it becomes the Gold Standard for our local economy. The Goldback looks like a golden ticket, which acts as a thin gold coin that fits in your wallet just like paper bills. While the Goldback will not challenge the primacy of the Greenback, its use is growing fast. It is an innovation that allows people to use gold for even the smallest daily transactions, and that is propelling a niche local currency into a movement. Starting on Sept. 19 these sleek gold notes will be available to the public and could soon be seen on your local main street.

State won’t seek death penalty

On June 29 at the Arraignment hearing for Alfredo Castellanos-Rosales, the court directed the State of South Dakota to file a written notice on whether it would seek the death penalty. The state needed to make its determination by Aug. 14.

Truhe speaks to students about digital citizenship

With the use of social media and other digital platforms so readily available to everyone now, the EPJ Friends of the Library thought it would be important for students to understand safe use of the platforms. So, Wednesday, Sept. 6, Bobby Truhe, a former EPJ student and now a lawyer for KSB School Law, spoke to the 6-12th grades on digital citizenship.

Senior Box program locally available to residents

Senior residents in Southern Union County have another opportunity available to them in the way of food security. The Senior Box program is managed through USDA Commodity Supplemental Food Program and administered by Feeding South Dakota.
