The month of December started off in a festive mood for Dakota Valley as the high school held their holiday program on Friday, Dec. 1. The band and choir performed to a full crowd with many music students dressing in concert attire that included hints of red, green and Santa Claus hats and accessories.

Dakota Valley Elementary School held it’s fifth annual Family Math Night Nov. 16.

The first draft of the enterprise fund budget was presented to the Dakota Dunes Community Improvement District Board of Supervisors Monday, Nov. 20. In the water fund, there was a proposed rate increase which had been projected the year prior during a three-year rate increase scale.

Pierre and Sioux Falls made the list of the top 25 small and large cities, respectively, in the newly released AARP Livability Index for 2023. Launched in 2015, the AARP Livability Index platform scores livability by using more than 50 national data sources, such as the U.S.

A community coat drive is being held in North Sioux City. In attempts to help those who are in need of warm clothing this winter season, clean and new or gently-used coats can be donated.

Two hundred and fifty-one (251) South Dakota volunteer fire departments from across the state, including five municipalities from Union County, have been awarded grants totaling $5 million in funding for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Earlier this year, the South Dakota Legislature passed and Governor Noem signed HB1127 appropriating state general funds to the Department of Public Safety creating the grant program to support local volunteer fire departments.

The Giving Tree is up and ready for participants at Dakota Valley. The tree is located inside the High School Lobby.
