Keenan attends SD High School Honor Choir

Aiden Keenan participated in the South Dakota High School Honor Choir camp held at Augustana University in Sioux Falls, SD. Aiden auditioned to earn a position as a bass singer at the 49th annual camp. He joined over 100+ fellow junior and senior choir members from across the state of South Dakota. The participants were instructed by Dr. Jefferson Johnson, Director of Choral Activities at the University of Kentucky. At the end of the week-long camp participants presented a concert at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls, SD on Aug. 4, 2023. Keenan is a junior at Dakota Valley High School instructed by Kari Wilmes.

North Sioux City Library to hold events

Things are always going on at the North Sioux City Community Library. In the month of September, a crochet class is being held on Sept. 6 and 20 from 1:30 to 4 p.m. Adult Craft night will be held Sept. 7 from 6 to 7 p.m. Sept. 12 will be a fun-_lled day with Beginner LEGOs at 10:30 a.m. and Book Club at 6 p.m. Storytime begins on Sept. 13 and 14 at 10:30 a.m. After Sept. 13, storytime will be held every Wednesday and Thursday.

Dunes discusses 2024 budget

Current and upcoming construction projects were the main focus of the Dakota Dunes Community Improvement District (CID) Board of Supervisors meeting held Aug. 28.

One person died Thursday, Aug. 24 morning from injuries sustained in a two-vehicle crash two miles from Alcester, SD.

NNA, others protest postal increases

Since an aggressive new pricing policy was put in place by Postmaster General Louis DeJoy in 2021, Periodicals mail has seen twice-a-year postage rate increases. Cumulatively, the prices have increased more than 30 percent for Periodicals. For some types of individual Periodicals and Marketing Mail, increases have soared above 40 percent. Newspaper distribution costs have strapped publishers.

Council hears funding requests for 2024

Budget requests are rolling in for fiscal year 2024. Four of those requests were presented to the North Sioux City City Council at their Aug.

Weekly newspapers in SD bucking trends

One heartbreaking phone call in November 2021 sums up the depth of devotion Jill Meier and other weekly newspaper editors across South Dakota feel toward keeping their communities informed. Meier took the call while working at the Brandon Valley Journal and learned that her 83-year-old mother had died at a hospital in Minnesota.
