Jazz Band competes in Brookings brings home first

The Panther jazz band was in Jackrabbit territory on April 11 for South Dakota State University’s jazz festival in Brookings. It was a worthwhile trip and event for Dakota Valley as the band members raked in the accolades.

Dakota Valley MS Science Olympiad places 4th

The 40th annual South Dakota Science Olympiad was held in Vermillion on March 23 with multiple Panther middle schoolers in attendance. The event took place at the University of South Dakota where students showed off their knowledge in a variety of science based subjects.

HOSA members bring home medals from state

Panther students, active in Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA), were in Sioux Falls on April 11th and 12th for the State Leadership Conference (SLC). It was the 10th annual SLC for South Dakota and took place at multiple locations which included: Sanford Pentagon, Sanford Fieldhouse, USD Sioux Falls Campus and Southeast Technical College.

County declares property nuisance

The property located at 31798 475th Ave., Elk Point was declared a nuisance by the Union County Board of County Commissioners at their meeting on April 16. The owners are Richard and Wanda Jilderda.

District 17 Legislative candidate arrested

Robin J. Schiro of Elk Point, who is seeking a seat as the District 17 State House of Representatives, was arrested on Wednesday, April 10 on charges of Obstructing Officer, Jailer, Firefighter.

New restaurant opens in North Sioux City

Walking into the newest restaurant in North Sioux City isn’t like walking into a business. It feels more like coming home. The homey atmosphere paired with smiles and greetings of welcome by the staff, have customers instantly at ease.

NSC city council winners

North Sioux City held their municipal election on April 9 at the North Sioux City Community Center. The polls were busy all day as 614 residents turned out to cast a vote in their respective wards. The unofficial results were released after voting closed at 7 p.m. with the counting completed that evening.

Brock’s Big Outdoors relocated

Brock’s Big Outdoors has moved locations. The North Sioux City based business has moved into the Big Frig building suite #2 located at 610 Freedom Drive.

Dakota Valley Panthers attend FBLA state conference

Five Panther high school students competed in Sioux Falls, on April 7-9, at the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) state conference. It was a wonderful experience for all of the Panthers who were accompanied by Dakota Valley business teacher and FBLA advisor Justine Sponder.
