Brewing community relationships one beer at a time

The only brewery in Union County – Jefferson Beer Supply – opened its doors Jan. 1, 2022 and began selling their own beer in May. Since then, Nicki Werner and Anthony Roark have come up with creative ways to draw people to their business and to Jefferson.

Eligible families may apply for free or reduced-price meal programs

Child and Adult Nutrition Services in the South Dakota Department of Education announces income eligibility guidelines for free milk and free and reduced-price meals. The policy applies to children unable to pay the full price of meals or milk served under the National School Lunch, School Breakfast, Special Milk and/or Child and Adult Care Food Programs (CACFP). The administrative office of each school or agency that participates in any of these federal programs has a copy of the policy available for review.

Where Were You? 21 years later

Twenty-one years ago the United States witnessed a national tragedy that is forever established in the memories of Americans. No matter the age, people seem to always be able to recall where they were when al-Qaeda, an extremist group from the Middle East, initiated coordinated attacks on American soil.

Jessen receives honors

Daryl Jessen is the 7-12 Instrumental Music teacher at Dakota Valley. He was selected as a quarterfinalist for the Music Educators Grammy Award.

Muddy Bites

Remember hot summer days as a child and getting to have ice cream – especially a sundae cone? The best part, besides the ice cream of course, was at the very bottom of the cone there was a bunch of chocolate. That’s the idea where Muddy Bites came from – the best part of a sundae cone.

Hole in One!

Panthers receive grant money

On Aug. 24 high schoolers of the 2022 Dakota Valley Cross Country team were presented with a winning grant check of $1,000 for their participation in the Siouxland Community Health Center’s 12th Annual 5K Be True To Your School Challenge. Members of the team and their supporters donated and ran in the 5K race July 30, 2022 at the Adams Homestead & Nature Preserve.

Brown breaks school meet record

Boys take 2nd on home course

The Dakota Valley Panthers took to the links on their home course Thursday, Aug. 24 at Two Rivers Golf Course in North Sioux City. Squads for the varsity and junior varsity had impressive showings to make it a winning day for all.

Dance starts season with strong showing

The Dakota Valley dance team showed they will be a continued force in competition this season by taking 1st place in Gregory, SD Aug. 27.
