A public hearing was held for two upcoming water projects at the North Sioux City City Council meeting April 19. The first project is the Streeter Drive Water Treatment Plant Expansion. Resolution 2022-03 allowed the city to submit an application to the South Dakota Board of Water and Natural Resources for the project not to exceed $7,651,000. The second project, the Southwest Sewer Basin, is under Resolution 2022-04 and has an application amount not to exceed $7,060,897.

Resolution 2022-05 – transfer real estate to the North Sioux City Economic Development Corporation was approved. According to South Dakota Codified Law, the city can transfer real estate property to non-profit corporations. The property is not currently being utilized for public purpose and will be transferred to the economic development corporation. The property is located along North Derby Lane where the old water tower used to be.

A housing study presentation was made via Zoom by Steve Griesert of Community Partners Research, Inc.

In other business, the council heard from two MidAmerican Energy representatives on the renewal process for the city’s gas franchise and the possibility of adding an electric franchise. A public hearing will be held Monday, May 16 at 7 p.m. at city hall.

The council waived the vendor insurance in lieu of the proof of vendor insurance requirement for the North Sioux City Parks and Recreation Associations’ upcoming vendor fair.

North Sioux City Finance Officer Amy Lilly presented the 2021 Annual Report for council review. Quam, Berglin & Post, PC will begin audit work May 24.

Firework applications were approved for Lantis Fireworks (pending receipt of SD fireworks permit), Zorts Power Source Fireworks and American Fireworks.

The council approved issuing a letter to the South Dakota Department of Transportation recommending Stockwell Engineering to be the engineers for the Northshore Road project.

The council approved various plats as recommended by the Planning and Zoning Commission, moved into executive session, reconvened, approved bills and adjourned.
