A 3.7 magnitude earthquake was reported the morning of Friday, June 4 along the South Dakota and Nebraska border. The shake was reported as happening in either southern Gregory County or Charles Mix County in South Dakota. Towns and cities near the epicenter may have felt weak shaking such as a truck passing by or seen hanging objects swaying. These towns include Springfield, Yankton and Mitchell (which was 60 miles away from the epicenter).
This is the third earthquake experienced in the state this year. The first was a 3.1 magnitude in Tyndall on Jan. 4 and the second a 3.4 magnitude about seven miles east-northeast of Edgemont on March 26.
